Our Opinion
A high class resort with much to offer
Atmosphere: Welcoming, friendly and efficient, the service here is second to none.
Rooms: The rooms are elegant, spacious and well-equipped. The natural materials used in the decor mean that the rooms blend in nicely with the natural island surroundings.
Dining: The food here is of an extremely high standard and the four restaurants on the island offer a great variety including themed nights.
Activities: The snorkelling is disappointing due to a bleaching event. However, the Marine Discovery Centre is pioneering coral growth on artificial frames. There is much to see and do at the Marine Centre and the excursions are excellent.

Marine Conservation
The waters around Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru are home to a breathtakingly beautiful and rich ecosystem. Below the ocean's surface, precious coral reefs ring the islands, where fish painted in psychedelic colours swim, sea turtles coast and dolphins play. Whale sharks and manta rays also venture here, to feed on tiny plankton.
Snorkellers, divers and other adventurers hoping to catch a glimpse of these creatures will enjoy more than just a sighting with the Resort's interactive marine programme. Led by Senior Marine Biologist Guy Stevens and the marine biology team, activities in the programme guide guests through the alluring underwater world around the islands.
Guests will experience once-in-a-lifetime encounters with a variety of marine creatures while learning about their life and habitat, and will even be able to participate in some of the Resort's conservation projects.
Proceeds from all activities support the Resort's Green Fund conservation and marine research programmes.
Marine life presentations
The reef of the Maldivian archipelago represents one of the richest marine ecosystems on earth. Guests who are interested in learning more about the area's underwater life are invited to attend a marine life presentation by the resident marine biologist.
The presentation is offered five evenings a week in Five Degrees North bar and lounge. The following afternoon, guests enjoy a snorkelling excursion with the marine biologist – a unique way to discover the underwater world of the Maldives.
Marine Research Centre
Located on the island, the Marine Research Centre works to enrich the guest experience through education, research and conservation of the marine environment. It is the base for pioneering research on manta rays and whale sharks, leading to knowledge that will help preserve these near-threatened species. Marine biologists and student volunteers from around the world work on-site at the 120-square-metre (1,292-square-foot) facility, which features a lab for breeding fish, as well as aquarium exhibits where guests can learn about the centre's projects through interactive educational displays. The Marine Research Centre is open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.
Spa
The Spa and Ayurvedic Retreat is a retreat within a retreat, set both in fragrant inner gardens and a seabreeze-kissed over-water spa. Thatched spa pavilions and ayruvedic suites offer time-honoured therapies conducted by Indian experts. Private yoga sessions are available with the resident yogi in picturesque tranquility. Secluded open-air treatment areas make the lush tropical setting an integral part of the relaxation and treatment process.
The spa complex
Located in the heart of the island and stretching down to the sea, the spa complex occupies an elevated 1-hectare (2.5-acre) site, with 10 individual thatched treatment pavilions – four over water, three in a lush garden setting and three in the Ayurvedic Retreat. Set over crystal waters, each water pavilion has an attached steam room and deep bath that overlooks the ocean, while each garden treatment villa has a steam room and outdoor shower.
Guests aged 16 and above are welcome to enjoy spa treatments.
Numerous pathways throughout the beautiful surrounding gardens allow for leisurely walks pre- and post-treatment.
The spa also incorporates a beauty salon, juice bar, beachfront resting pavilion and retail area.
Ayurvedic Retreat
Situated within the spa complex, the Ayurvedic Retreat, a first for Four Seasons, is designed to stimulate its guests into thinking about, experimenting with and understanding the fundamental philosophical approach to ayurveda.
The Resort has worked closely with experts from nearby Kerala, India, to ensure this ancient science of life has been successfully transported to the Maldives. These experienced Keralan and Sri Lankan therapists and ayurvedic physicians are highly trained professionals in ayurveda, including diet, body type, patient approach and the practice of yoga and meditation.
The Ayurvedic Retreat has three individual treatment pavilions designed to take guests on a journey through the physical, nutritional and emotional benefits of the ayurvedic system. In each treatment pavilion, furnished with wooden ayurvedic tables, traditional herbal bathtubs, steam benches and an area for mud treatments, guests are treated to physical and spiritual rejuvenation.
Besides introducing the myriad possibilities ayurveda offers, guests will also learn to integrate some of the processes into their daily lives. At the herbal centre, fragrant gardens are planted with medicinal herbs, trees and flowers.
Here, guests can learn about the various oils and herbal concoctions used in the ayurvedic process.
The Resort's resident ayurvedic physician is available to advise on healthier lifestyle options and to design dosha-specific meal plans in cooperation with the Resort’s ayurvedic chef, for guests who wish to experience this ancient science throughout the duration of their stay.
Another speciality is the panchakarma procedure, a series of five therapies that comprises ayurveda’s primary purification and detoxification treatment. Due to the complexity of these treatments and the associated detoxification diet that is essential to its success, the procedure is offered as a 14-day package only.
Yoga
Yoga at the Resort is a magical experience. The resident yogi guides beginners and experienced followers through inspiring morning meditation and evening enlightenment sessions from a pavilion that “floats” on the sea. Private sessions are available, and the yogi welcomes all guests for discussions on this ancient spiritual practice.
